Free Speech – A History from Socrates to Social Media

Jacob Mchangama - 2022

This is one fabulous historical story about free speech spanning several millennia  —  it was hard to put down. The book is loaded with historical stories going back to the Greeks and the Romans, spanning the Dark Ages, and then into the Renaissance. It is fascinating to read about all the starts and stops in European free speech and then there so much about our country. The book wraps up with a deep dive into free speech on the internet which is a story that will be written for centuries to come.

The book is 400 pages and the font is not really large so set aside time for a good educational read. The author is now at Vanderbilt and is the founder of The Future of Free Speech
